Written in ink in upper left corner: "Isaac Goodnow Manhattan KS."
Isaac Goodnow's copy of the earliest map of Manhattan. He was actively selling town lots and probably marked the map as they were sold. Numerous inked slashes are drawn through various properties. Names "McDowell" "Walters" and "Swartz" appear on right margin. "I.T.G. 3 Acres" written on top. "C.G. Brown" written just to left of town site, adjacent to the text "Cincinnati & Kansas Land Company" Frame: stained black wood;1.5." Protected with glass.
Fair Condition: There are tears in the map creases, smudges and ink blotches throughout, and large rips along the bottom of the map. 30.50"x27.50" (32.50"x30")
Notice that the map was drawn with north on the right side instead of at the top and so the town may look sideways to you. The map also displays Manhattan's historic, rather than modern, street numbering
